Honors 110
Perspectives on the Human Experience I

Over the course of the semester, we will explore four, distinct themes through the use of various literature, documentaries, podcasts and Ted Talks: 1) Utopias & Dystopias: Freedom, Censorship, Economics, Whistleblowers, Subjective & Objective Realities 2) The War on Drugs: Drug vs. Medicine vs. Sacred Communion, The War on Consciousness, Indigenous Plant Medicines & The Shamanic Revival, Varying Global Drug Laws 3) Love & Relationships: Love Languages, Infidelity, Longevity, Family-Love, and 4) Inner Peace & Mindfulness: Buddhist Meditations, Impermanence, Death & Re-birth

We’ll approach these themes from multiple, ancient & contemporary lenses. Be prepared to have an open mind, communicate kindly & sincerely with your peers, and create work of which you are proud.

I look forward to this experience with all of you!

"To have Oshum leave us is a very, very dangerous thing, and we see it in things like fracking - what's happening to our water supply. We see it in things like the way that they are raping the Queen Bee; honey is sacred to Oshun. We see it in the sex trafficking of children that's going on, on this planet. All of these things we read as signs that we done pissed Oshun off. So for the last 10 or 12 years there have priests all over the world going to the river, going to places where the river's dry, making offerings and begging Oshun to come back to us. All of this is about wanting to recognize the power of the Divine Feminine."

- Luisah Teish on the Archetype of Oshun

Professor Jaclyn Costello UNLV

"There can be no more intimate and elemental part of the individual than his or her own consciousness. At the deepest level, our consciousness is what we are - to the extent that if we are not sovereign over our own consciousness then we cannot in any meaningful sense be sovereign over anything else either."

- Graham Hancock
